Motor racing is one of the most technically complex of all professional sports, yet it has almost no tradition of competitor training. Footballers, golfers, swimmers and athletes all have personal coaches who play a large part in their success, but racing drivers are generally assumed - often wrongly - to have an in-built talent which needs no nurturing.
